In Year 3/4, our Design and Technology curriculum encourages children to become creative thinkers, problem solvers and confident designers. Pupils are given opportunities to design, make and evaluate purposeful products, developing key practical skills alongside their understanding of how things work.
This term, children have been exploring textiles, learning how to safely use tools and materials to create their own products. They have practised running stitch and over stitch, learning how to join fabric and strengthen their designs. Pupils carefully planned their ideas, selected appropriate materials and evaluated their finished products against their design criteria.
Through this hands-on learning, children developed resilience, independence and pride in their work. It was fantastic to see them refining their techniques and showing real attention to detail as they brought their ideas to life.
Our DT lessons link closely with other areas of the curriculum, encouraging children to apply their creativity, problem-solving and evaluation skills across a range of contexts—just like real designers.
