Year 4 Explore Changing States with a Hands-On Science Workshop
This week, Year 4 were thrilled to take part in a Hands-On Science workshop all about changing states of matter. Led by a visiting science specialist, pupils explored the fascinating processes of melting, cooling, and solidifying through a series of exciting experiments.
Using real equipment and materials, children observed how wax changes from a solid to a liquid and back again – and even got the chance to make their own colourful candles! The workshop included:
Investigating how heat affects different substances
Watching wax melt and solidify safely
Learning new scientific vocabulary like evaporation, solidification, and insulation
Collaborating in groups and sharing observations
The session brought science to life and supported our current science topic brilliantly. The children were engaged, curious, and full of questions – it was a memorable experience that helped deepen their understanding of materials and their properties.
A huge thank you to our science visitor for making it such an interactive and inspiring afternoon!
