The children in Little Shoots were very lucky today.

Mrs Fugasin and her family celebrate Saint Nicholas Day and they were visited by him this morning. Mrs Fugasin shared the story with the class this afternoon. The children received an orange and a lolly pop in their shoes which is a European tradition.

We were delighted to be invited to plant some trees in our community today.  All of our wonderful children learned all about the importance of trees in a whole-school assembly, and then a lucky few joined Mrs Catlyn and Mrs McKinven on a trip to plant some new tress outside the shops.

We loved digging, planting and standing back to enjoy the fruits of our labour, and can’t wait to watch the trees flourish over time… just like our amazing pupils

A massive THANK YOU to Clara and her family who kindly donated a Christmas tree to be used in school. Clara and some of her friends, spent their lunchtime on Friday making it look festive.

On Friday 22nd November, a group of Woodlands students joined Mr. Bowden and Mrs. Kirk on a special trip to see the Premier League Trophy at Grimsby Town Hall.

The school had been invited to bring a group of students to see the trophy by Premier League sponsors Barclays, and in order to pick the students to attend, Mr. Bowden ran an in-school competition. The brief was simple: make a model of the trophy.

The standard of competition was high and many entries were received. However, there could only be three winners and all are pictured below with their designs.  They loved their trip to the Town Hall to see the trophy in real life, and their behaviour was impeccable throughout the trip.

On Friday 15th November, Year 6 went on an amazing visit to the IntoUniversity centre in Grimsby.  We spent the day learning all about what a university is, the places around the country we could study, the subjects on offer, where we’d stay and what a degree entails.  The children considered their talents and aspirations and all made a pledge to attend university and make a difference to the world.  Amongst our Year 6 team, we have aspirant engineers, doctors, teachers and artists… One child is determined to find the cure for lung cancer.  We could not be more proud of our ambitious pupils.

On Monday 11th November, Mr. Dickson led a special assembly as Woodlands paid a tribute to our country’s fallen heroes on Remembrance Day.

All classes in school made a unique poppy wreath (all of which are now proudly displayed in our school’s entrance) and also wrote their own class poem, which was then read aloud by the students.

Each and every one of these was remarkable, with all classes showing both creativity and compassion in their works.

During the assembly, Woodlands also listened poignantly to the Last Post and observed an immaculate two minute silence.

Woodlands Remembers.

We are proud to announce the opening of the Orchard Class at Woodlands Academy.  This amazing space is designed to provide high quality education and pastoral support to the children at Woodlands.  Our wonderful team provide a nurturing and ambitious environment, where all children can thrive.  We can’t wait to see what our children achieve with the support of the Orchard Class team.

Year 6 at Woodlands Academy have had a blast at PGL.  They spent the weekend team-building, conquering their fears, and showing the world their high levels of resilience, determination and courage.  All the children worked hard to support each other and push themselves.  They excelled at tasks such as canoeing, climbing, high ropes, and even tried rifle shooting and archery.  What a wonderful experience for all.  Year 6 were a credit to the school, the trust and their families.  We’re proud of you!

The Pastoral Team at Woodlands Academy had a busy summer delivering food parcels to some of our families.  Thanks to Morrisons, Grimsby, we were able to deliver lunches to over 100 of our wonderful pupils, enjoying catching up with them about the summer break as we did so.

In addition, we were also able to provide fresh bread, pastries and other baked goods to all of our families and wider community over the summer and into Autumn term, thanks to kind donations from Country Style Food, Grimsby.

A huge thank you to Mrs Curtiss, Mrs Catlyn and Miss Wright for their valiant efforts, and enormous gratitude to Morrisons and Country Style Food for their generous donations and ongoing support.  Well done Team Woodlands!
