We were proud to welcome the Mayor and delegates from Germany into Woodlands this week to teach us about how children around the world celebrate St Nicholas Day. The children loved learning about different traditions, including the excitement of leaving out shoes or stockings ready to be filled with treats!
It was a fantastic opportunity to explore global celebrations, compare traditions and understand how festivals are marked in different countries and cultures.
We hope all of our families who are celebrating this weekend find lots of lovely treats in their stockings or shoes… let us know what St Nicholas brings!

This afternoon, we were delighted to welcome Grimsby Town players Jaze Kabia and Justin Amaluzor into school.
They spent time visiting classrooms and our after-school club, answering questions and chatting with the children about life as a professional footballer. The players spoke about their fantastic win over Manchester United in the EFL Cup, sharing what it takes to perform at the highest level.
Most importantly, they encouraged our pupils to believe in themselves, work hard and follow their dreams—both on and off the pitch. It was an inspiring visit and one the children will remember for a long time. Thank you to Jaze and Justin for taking the time to visit Woodlands!

Today, we visited Franklin College to take part in their very first Primary Maths Challenge. The competition was tricky and really made the children think, but they showed fantastic perseverance, teamwork and resilience throughout.
We are incredibly proud to share that the boys finished 5th out of 10 schools—an excellent achievement in such a challenging event.
Well done to everyone involved for representing the school so brilliantly. You should be very proud of yourselves!

t Woodlands, we marked Remembrance Day with a meaningful day of learning, reflection and poetry. Across the school, children took time to learn about why we remember, who we remember, and the importance of honouring those who gave their lives in service.
Pupils explored the symbolism of the poppy, shared thoughtful discussions and created powerful pieces of writing and poetry to express their understanding and respect. The calm, reflective atmosphere throughout the day showed the maturity and empathy our children brought to their learning.
It was a poignant and respectful day that helped us remember the past and reflect on the values of peace, gratitude and remembrance.
Lest we forget.

Today a
Year 2 Visit to Green Futures!
Our Year 2 children had a brilliant time visiting Green Futures this week!
They explored the gardens and greenhouses, learned about how plants grow, and even had the chance to smell and handle herbs like rosemary. The children loved asking questions, spotting vegetables, and discovering more about where food comes from.
The trip gave them the chance to connect with nature and understand more about sustainability and caring for our environment.

Year 1 Visit Green Futures! 🌱
Our Year 1 children had a fantastic time visiting Green Futures Grimsby this week!
The children explored the polytunnels, learned all about how fruit and vegetables are grown, and even had a go at planting and picking some of their own. They were fascinated to see how plants develop and were brilliant at asking questions and spotting different types of produce.
It was a brilliant hands-on learning experience that brought our science and sustainability topics to life – and the sunshine made it even better!
A huge thank you to the team at Green Futures for their warm welcome and to all our staff and volunteers who helped make the day a success.
Check out the photos below to see our little gardeners in action!

Our Year 3 children had a brilliant opportunity to take part in a special workshop run by the team from IntoUniversity Grimsby. Held in the school hall, the session was packed with fun, learning and aspirations for the future!
The children were introduced to a range of careers and got to hear all about the journeys taken by the IntoUniversity staff. It was fantastic to see how inspired our pupils were—especially when discussing their own hopes and dreams.
A huge thank you to the team at IntoUniversity for delivering such an engaging and meaningful session. We can’t wait to work with you again soon!

On 12th June, our Year 4 pupils took part in an exciting and inspiring IntoUniversity workshop, designed to open their eyes to future careers and develop essential teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Throughout the day, children rotated through a variety of engaging activities based on real-life careers. From city planning to sound engineering, each station gave pupils a hands-on insight into how different skills are used in the working world. Here’s a glimpse of what they experienced:
🔹 Urban Planners used colourful building materials and maps to construct a miniature city – thinking carefully about roads, housing, and community spaces.
🔹 Engineers and Designers worked collaboratively to build floating devices and test their creations in water – putting their creativity and resilience to the test.
🔹 Foley Artists created sound effects using everyday objects to bring scenes to life, learning about how sound is added in films and television.
🔹 Cultural Curators explored artefacts and traditions from around the world, reflecting on the importance of storytelling and heritage.
The workshop not only supported our PSHE and careers curriculum, but also helped children develop confidence, communication, and critical thinking. The children loved the challenge and showed brilliant teamwork throughout the day.
A huge thank you to the team at IntoUniversity for delivering such a high-quality, memorable experience. We can’t wait to build on this learning back in the classroom!

What a brilliant day!
Year 4 started the day with an amazing trip to Magna, to learn all about natural disasters and forces of nature.
We then held our Year 4 sleepover. We played games, took part in orienteering, did a quiz and even put up tents in the atrium to sleep in.
The children (and staff!) were amazing and we can’t wait to do it again soon. What a great experience for our young people to take part in.
