We are proud to announce the opening of the Orchard Class at Woodlands Academy.  This amazing space is designed to provide high quality education and pastoral support to the children at Woodlands.  Our wonderful team provide a nurturing and ambitious environment, where all children can thrive.  We can’t wait to see what our children achieve with the support of the Orchard Class team.

Year 6 at Woodlands Academy have had a blast at PGL.  They spent the weekend team-building, conquering their fears, and showing the world their high levels of resilience, determination and courage.  All the children worked hard to support each other and push themselves.  They excelled at tasks such as canoeing, climbing, high ropes, and even tried rifle shooting and archery.  What a wonderful experience for all.  Year 6 were a credit to the school, the trust and their families.  We’re proud of you!

The Pastoral Team at Woodlands Academy had a busy summer delivering food parcels to some of our families.  Thanks to Morrisons, Grimsby, we were able to deliver lunches to over 100 of our wonderful pupils, enjoying catching up with them about the summer break as we did so.

In addition, we were also able to provide fresh bread, pastries and other baked goods to all of our families and wider community over the summer and into Autumn term, thanks to kind donations from Country Style Food, Grimsby.

A huge thank you to Mrs Curtiss, Mrs Catlyn and Miss Wright for their valiant efforts, and enormous gratitude to Morrisons and Country Style Food for their generous donations and ongoing support.  Well done Team Woodlands!

All children at Woodlands Academy celebrated Holi, the Festival of Colour, with the Hindu members of our community.  We enjoyed taking part in Diya painting workshops, and created some beautiful pieces.  The visitor running the workshops was overwhelmed with the positive behaviour and attitudes of our children and said that, at Woodlands Academy, she ‘encountered the most well-behaved, courteous, friendly and well mannered children’.  We could not be more proud that an external visitor recognised what we know to be true.

We are so proud of Y6s this term. Their continued effort with their learning has been incredible and this was seen in their most recent mock  SATs tests. The progress they have made since the last data point has been incredible. All the hard work of interventions, boosters and the additional home learning is starting to pay off. The children celebrated their success with a lovely breakfast on golden Friday and an afternoon of sport with GTSET.

The children of Woodlands Academy have attended lots of sporting events this term; from dodgeball, to cross country, to football… we’ve attended it all.

Our Dodgeball team were an absolute credit to the academy at their tournament, and we were extremely proud to have been awarded the title of  Most Sporting Team in the tournament.  Our children played fairly and with integrity, and were delighted for the winning opposition.

In Cross Country, our children ran tirelessly through the wind and mud, never giving up.  We even managed to bring home two medals for 2nd place in the Year 6 boys’ race, and 3rd in the Year 4 girls’ race.  Well done Ashton and Belle!

We also took a team of footballers to Bradley to take part in a local competition.  Our team came top of the league, and are now going on to the next round of the competition in Rochdale later this month, with the support of GTSET.  Two of our children were also scouted by Grimsby Town Football Club at this competition; what an achievement!

Over the term we have been celebrating reading. The children have created some amazing ‘Book in a box’ sculptures that are proudly displayed in our ever growing library area. We have also launched our ‘Bedtime book’ bags for YR-4 and ‘Nighttime novels’ for Y5-6. On World Book day we celebrated our love of reading by having a whole school reading session, this is where every adult selected a book to read and the children had the opportunity to pick the book they wanted to listen to. The staff and the children loved this and it was great to see such a love of reading around school
