We have enjoyed a wonderful run up to Christmas this year, with our Winter Wonderland being a huge success. Children from across our school and the wider community came to meet Santa and enjoy all of the festive activities available, such as toasting marshmallows and the festive photo booth. We even had a visit from the Mighty Mariner!
The whole school has also enjoyed a pantomime this year, with Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 watching a production in school, and Key Stage 2 visiting the auditorium. We had a blast!
Our choir also entertained members of our community at Center4. They sparked and shone and we’re really proud of them.
Merry Christmas everyone!
This term the children have amazed us with the fabulous home learning they have completed. Using our homework menu the children have selected different activities and brought them into school to showcase their learning.
Over the term we have taken part in 2 workshops provided by Lab Rascals. The first workshop focused on CO 2 and the Environment’. This educated the children on the properties of CO 2 and highlight what a carbon footprint is. During this workshop chemists from the local renewable energy sector discussed their roles within the sector and career pathways. During the second workshop the children built an electric LEGO® car, with a battery using wind and solar energy. We are really looking forward to our third workshop focusing on ‘Insulating a home’.
In July, we entered a scarecrow competition at a local garden centre. Two of our wonderful children designed and made George, the sun safe scarecrow. He was inspired by our drive at Woodlands Academy to stay safe in the heatwave.
This week, we were invited to Grimsby Garden Centre to find out if George had been a hit with the customers and were delighted to find out that George came third in the competition! We had lovely afternoon making bird feeders and exploring the garden centre, before being awarded our third place medal and certificate.
Well done to our scarecrow making super stars, and thank you to all who voted for George.
Over the summer break our site team worked tirelessly to cut back the forest school area, making it accessible and safe for the pupils at Woodlands Academy.
We now have access to our large outside classroom and circle time area. We can’t wait to start using the space to support our curriculum, and look forward to holding our Winter Wonderland in there is Christmas.
